Composition History

Charles Koechlin's Épitaphe de Jean Harlow, composed in 1937, is a tribute to the American film actress Jean Harlow, known as 'The Blond Bombshell,' whose life was cut short by chronic kidney disease.

Compositional Technique

Russell Peterson's Trio for Flute, Saxophone and Piano features challenging rapid music in its outer movements and a second movement based on a Middle Eastern mode, where the saxophone and flute imitate a Duduk, a Middle Eastern oboe.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Ferruccio Busoni, a great Italian composer, pianist, and author, endorsed the concept of transcription, believing that every performance of a piece is a new transcription.

Interpretation

On this album, the flute takes on the role of the voice in the Schubert songs, while the saxophone plays the second flute part in the Doppler Andante and Rondo and the vocal role in the Fauré and Strauss songs.

Performer Biography

The Yargo Trio formed in 2015 when flutist Angela Jones-Reus and pianist Liza Stepanova joined saxophonist Connie Frigo for a faculty recital at The University of Georgia.
