Krygell initially trained as a painter and decorator, but lead poisoning (painter's colic) forced him to abandon this trade and pursue music.

Krygell's main organ work, "Moll og Dur" ("Minor and Major"), consists of twenty-four fugues in all keys.

Johan Adam Krygell (1835-1915) was an organist and composer throughout his adult life, working at two churches in Denmark.
Instruments
The organ in Filips Kirke was saved from being scrapped and later renovated, with its original 1859 pipes preserved and supplemented by parts from other discarded Marcussen organs.
Critical Reception
Krygell's music was not widely performed during his lifetime, partly because he was considered "no innovator" by reviewers, sticking to traditional paths.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Krygell was deeply interested in counterpoint, and many of his works, including preludes, fugues, and toccatas, were modeled after J. S. Bach.

The organ used in this recording, located in Filips Kirke, was originally built in 1859 by Marcussen & Søn for Kastelskirken in Copenhagen.
