Lisa Shklyaver, the clarinetist on this album, began studying clarinet at age 11 with her grandfather, who was the solo clarinetist of the Khabarovsk Symphony Orchestra.
Interpretation
For this recording, Jos van Immerseel chose a Bechstein piano from 1870, and Lisa Shklyaver (clarinetist) used a Dolnet Lefevre & Pigis clarinet from 1930, to achieve a sound aesthetic familiar to the composers.

Jos van Immerseel founded his ensemble 'Anima Eterna Brugge' in 1987, which performs a broad repertoire from Monteverdi to Gershwin using period instruments.

The clarinet used on this recording was made by Dolnet, Lefevre & Pigis, a company founded in 1880 that produced flutes, oboes, clarinets, and saxophones until 1945.
Instruments
The Boehm clarinet system, widely used today, was developed by Parisian clarinetist Hyacinthe Eléonore Klosé and instrument maker Louis-Auguste Buffet, adapting Theobald Boehm's flute system for the clarinet in 1839.
