Performer Biography
Nicolás Pasquet, the conductor, won first prize at the 37th International Conducting Competition in Besançon in 1987 and has served as Chief Conductor of the Pécs Symphony Orchestra.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Lajtha believed that film music should be 'good music independently of all outside circumstances,' capable of standing on its own without the film.
Composer Biography
Lajtha was the only Hungarian composer since Franz Liszt to be elected a corresponding member of the French Académie des Beaux-Arts.
Compositional Technique
Lajtha's Symphony No. 7 includes musical quotations such as the opening of the Marseillaise, referencing the French Revolution, and a distorted version of the Hungarian National Hymn.

László Lajtha, a Hungarian composer, spent six months of each year in Paris until 1914, where he studied with Vincent d'Indy and befriended influential figures in the Paris musical scene.
Composition History
Lajtha's Symphony No. 7, subtitled 'Revolution Symphony', was influenced by the brutal suppression of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 against Communist dictatorship and Soviet oppression.
