This album was recorded in St John's College Chapel, Cambridge, across two sessions in April and July 2024.
Interpretation
The album's director, Christopher Gray, intentionally programmed challenging works to confront difficult issues, concluding with Dobrinka Tabakova's 'Turn our captivity, O Lord' to offer comfort.
Album & Artwork
The album artwork, titled 'Sarajevo, Aleppo, Mariupol...the list goes on', was created by Phil Whiting from sketches he made as a war artist in 'Sniper Alley', Sarajevo.
Composer's Artistic Vision
James MacMillan's 'Cantos Sagrados' was intended as a political protest, expressing Liberation Theology and solidarity with the repressed poor of Latin America.
Performer Biography
Alexander Robson, the organist on this recording, is the Herbert Howells Organ Scholar at St John's College and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists in 2024.
