The Great Organ in the Sint-Pauluskerk, Antwerp, is the only large 17th-century organ in Belgium that has retained its original sound material.
Composition History
Johann Kuhnau, Bach's predecessor as cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig, composed six harpsichord sonatas illustrating biblical stories, including 'The battle between David and Goliath'.
Composer Biography
Nicolaus Bruhns, a student of Buxtehude, died at the young age of 31 after working as a violinist in Copenhagen and organist in Husum.

The organ in the Sint-Pauluskerk, Antwerp, is a unique synthesis of cultures and confessions, with a Dutch/North German case and largely French-oriented sound qualities.
Compositional Technique
Georg Leyding's Prelude in E flat adapts elements of the Italian concerto, such as the interplay between Great and Rückpositiv, for the North German organ.
