Jeno Jando has recorded all of Mozart's piano concertos and sonatas for Naxos, as well as concertos by Grieg and Schumann, Rachmaninov's Second Concerto, and Beethoven's complete piano sonatas.
Composition History
The 'Années de Pèlerinage' (Years of Pilgrimage) were inspired by Liszt's years of travel with Marie d'Agoult, a married woman and mother of his three children.
Composer Biography
Franz Liszt's father, Adam Liszt, was a steward for the Esterhazy Princes, who were patrons of Haydn, and an amateur cellist.
Performer Biography
Jeno Jando, the pianist on this recording, has won several piano competitions, including first prize in the 1973 Hungarian Piano Concours and a chamber music prize at the 1977 Sydney International Piano Competition.
Composition History
The 'Années de Pèlerinage, Vol. 2: Italy' includes pieces inspired by Petrarch's sonnets and by artworks like Raphael's 'Lo sposalizio della Vergine' and Michelangelo's tomb of Giuliano de Medici.
Composer Biography
As a child, Liszt took piano lessons from Czerny and composition lessons from Antonio Salieri, the old Court composer who had also taught Beethoven and Schubert.
