Composer Biography
The Élégie sur des motifs du Prince Louis Ferdinand de Prusse is based on themes from Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia (1772-1806), a royal known as the dedicatee of Beethoven's Third Concerto.
Compositional Technique
Unlike Chopin, who often based a study on one technical point, most of Liszt's Transcendental Studies are expanded works with varied textures to support larger structures.
Composer Biography
The Mariotte-Valse de Marie is a short piece found among Liszt's correspondence with Marie d'Agoult, his long-time mistress and mother of his children.
Composition History
Liszt's Transcendental Studies began as an 'Étude en 48 exercises' in 1826, when he was not yet fifteen, though only twelve were composed.
