Lukas Foss, born in Berlin in 1922, settled in Philadelphia, USA, at age fifteen and strongly identified as an American composer despite his European roots.

Lukas Foss believed that to have a significant future in music, one must also have a strong connection to the past, a philosophy demonstrated in the diverse styles of his works.

Performer Biography

Nikki Chooi, the violinist on this album, is the concertmaster of the GRAMMY Award-winning Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and was previously concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

JoAnn Falletta, the conductor on this album, is a multiple GRAMMY-winning artist and was the first woman to lead a major American orchestra as music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic.
