The Piano Sonata by Witold Lutosławski, his only complete surviving pre-war work, was published posthumously in 2004 against his original wishes, but with his heirs' permission.

For his Folk Melodies, Witold Lutosławski deliberately chose unobtrusive folk tunes, rather than the most typical ones, to allow for new harmonic explorations.
