Mstislav Rostropovich, a key figure in 20th-century cello playing, inspired, commissioned, and premiered no fewer than 90 works, including the concertos by Lutosławski and Dutilleux.
Interpretation
Conductor Thomas Søndergård, a former percussionist, emphasizes that in the Dutilleux concerto, a vertical beat must never disregard the horizontal line.
