Composer Biography
Lyapunov studied composition at the Moscow Conservatory with Sergey Taneyev and briefly with Tchaikovsky, and piano with Liszt's pupil, Klindworth.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Lyapunov was closely associated with Mily Balakirev, the self-appointed leader of the Russian nationalist group of composers, which influenced his musical direction.
Composer Biography
In 1893, Lyapunov, along with Balakirev and Lyadov, was commissioned to collect folk-songs, resulting in a collection of three hundred songs.
Performer Biography
Dmitry Yablonsky, the conductor, made his orchestral debut as a cellist and conductor at age nine with Haydn's Cello Concerto in C major.
