Composer's Artistic Vision
Mahler himself wrote the texts for the four songs in Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, adapting the first from a poem in Des Knaben Wunderhorn.

Recording & Production
The transcriptions of Mahler's song cycles for string quartet and voice were commissioned by LIEDER ALIVE!, an organization dedicated to German Lieder.
Performer Biography
The Alexander String Quartet, formed in 1981, gained international recognition as the first American quartet to win the London International String Quartet Competition in 1985.
Interpretation
The transcriber, Zakarias Grafilo, aimed to blend orchestral colors with the intimacy of piano versions, integrating the solo voice as a fifth ensemble member.
