1/7Performer Biography
Bartek Duś, the saxophonist on this album, graduated with distinction from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice and is currently studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris.
Interpretation
The album's title, "Malinconico," was inspired by the first movement of Poulenc's Sonata for flute and piano, which is titled "Allegro malinconico."
Performer Biography
Magdalena Wojciechowska, the pianist, also graduated with distinction from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, where she now teaches.
Interpretation
The performers believe that melancholy, defined as wistful dreaming, sadness, reflection, and longing, is the common thread connecting all the works on this album.
Interpretation
Instead of playing standard saxophone repertoire, the performers selected lesser-known original works and arranged pieces by leading French composers not typically found in saxophone repertoire.
Recording & Production
This album was recorded from August 14-16, 2012, at Fattoria Musica in Osnabrück, with Phillip Schulz handling recording, editing, and mastering.
Interpretation
The artists chose French music for their debut CD because France has a rich saxophone tradition and because they both love French music.
