The Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, established in 2002, is a rare example in Europe of a completely privately funded orchestra, supported exclusively by the Rome Foundation.
Compositional Technique
Malipiero's Concerti, dedicated to conductor Fritz Reiner, is a unique set of 'miniature concertos' for different instrumental sections, framed by an 'Esordio' (Preamble) and 'Commiato' (Leave-Taking).
Recording & Production
This album includes world premiere recordings of Gian Francesco Malipiero's Passacaglie and Concerti, and the first stereo recording of Fantasie di ogni giorno.

Malipiero saw himself as an outsider in the musical world and had idiosyncratic feelings about musical form, often renouncing traditional thematic development.
Composer Biography
Gian Francesco Malipiero, born in Venice in 1882, came from a musical family; his grandfather Francesco was an admired opera composer and his father Luigi was a pianist and conductor.
Performer Biography
Francesco La Vecchia, the conductor, gave his first concert at age nine and became an international conductor at 27, later becoming Artistic Director and Resident Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma.
