The Church of San Luigi dei Francesi in Rome was unique for having permanent instrumentalists in its music chapel, unlike other Roman churches where only the organist was regularly salaried.

Many of Mannelli's Trio Sonatas, including ten out of twelve in Op. 3, feature a 'Canzone' movement characterized by a virtuosic fugato style, often placed in the middle of the Sonata.

Carlo Mannelli, the composer of these Trio Sonatas, began his career as a singer at age ten, known by the nickname 'Carluccio' in Rome.

Composition History
Mannelli's Op. 3, dedicated to Prince Domenico Rospigliosi, was published in 1692, but there is no documentation of him serving as a musician at Rospigliosi's court.
