Bohuslav Martinů's orchestral output is largely defined by the six symphonies he composed after fleeing war-torn Europe for America in 1941.
Performer Biography
Ian Hobson, the pianist and conductor on this recording, won First Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1981.

Martinů's symphonies are abstract and engaged, never using specific names, sung texts, or programmatic elements.
