Performer Biography

Yevgeny Sudbin, the pianist on this recording, was hailed by the Daily Telegraph as "potentially one of the greatest pianists of the 21st century" and has received numerous awards for his recordings.

Composition History

Despite being contemporaries, Scriabin wrote his Piano Concerto in 1896 at age 24, while Medtner began his Third Piano Concerto in 1940 at age 60, resulting in a 45-year gap between their compositions.

Alexander Scriabin and Nikolai Medtner, though eight years apart in age, both studied composition at the Moscow Conservatory under Taneyev and piano under Safonov.
