Composition History

The Violin Concerto in D minor, written in 1822, remained undiscovered in Mendelssohn's family estate for over a century until violinist Yehudi Menuhin rediscovered and premiered it in 1951.

Elvin Hoxha Ganiyev performs on a rare violin by Giuseppe Guarneri 'filius Andreae' from 1715, supported by the Haydar Aliyev Foundation.

Elvin Hoxha Ganiyev, the violinist on this recording, began playing at age five and made his solo debut at eight with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra.

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was only 13 years old when he composed his Violin Concerto in D minor, a feat considered rare for such a young age, even for a genius.
