Critical Reception
Meyerbeer's four grand operas—Robert le Diable, Les Huguenots, Le Prophète, and L'Africaine—were spectacularly successful, enormously influential, and remained popular into the 1930s.
Composition History
Meyerbeer wrote L'Etoile du Nord and Dinorah for the Opéra Comique later in his career, fulfilling a lifelong aspiration to compose for that genre.
