Jordi Masó, the pianist, has recorded over forty acclaimed discs, including the complete piano works of Frederic Mompou, Roberto Gerhard, and Xavier Montsalvatge.
Composition History
The pieces on this album were composed between 1911 and 1918, a period when Frederic Mompou, despite his youth, had already developed his unique musical idiom.
Compositional Technique
In his 1914 piece L'eco (The Echo), Frederic Mompou experimented with piano resonances by notating the resulting harmonics and dissonances on a separate stave.
Composer Biography
Frederic Mompou, the composer, decided to become a composer in 1909 after attending a concert of Gabriel Fauré's music in Barcelona.
Compositional Technique
Frederic Mompou devised a unique 'metallic' or 'Barri de platja' chord in 1910, which he considered fundamental to his entire musical output.
Composition History
Much of the music on this album comes from two folders of Frederic Mompou's early compositions and harmony exercises, discovered by his wife Carmen Bravo in 1985.
