Two significant works on this album, the Gloria a 8 voci and Confitebor a 4 voci, were not included in Gian Francesco Malipiero's 1942 Opera Omnia of Monteverdi's sacred compositions.

Roberto Gini, the conductor, meticulously reconstructed lost improvisation practices by studying Monteverdi's treatises and 16th- and 17th-century texts.
