Moszkowski's Second Orchestral Suite, Op. 47, was dedicated to the pianist, conductor, and ardent Wagnerite Hans von Bülow.

Despite his earlier fame and wealth, Moszkowski spent his last years in desperate poverty after unwisely investing his fortune in German and Russian securities that became valueless after World War I and the Russian Revolution.

Ian Hobson, the conductor on this album, won First Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1981 and has amassed a discography of some sixty releases.
