Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622, was written for his friend Anton Stadler, who made technical changes to the instrument for a downward extension.

Mozart irrevocably quarrelled with his patron, the Archbishop of Salzburg, in Vienna in 1781, after feeling prevented from fully using his abilities.
Composition History
Mozart's only surviving bassoon concerto was written in Salzburg in 1774, possibly for Freiherr Thaddaeus von Duernitz, an enthusiastic amateur.
Instruments
The clarinet, derived from the earlier chalumeau, was developed from the beginning of the eighteenth century and only became a permanent orchestral element towards the end of Mozart's life.
