The Clarinet Concerto is generally known in a revised version for a normal clarinet, as the original basset clarinet used by Stadler is rare.

Mozart wrote his single surviving Bassoon Concerto in Salzburg in 1774, possibly for Freiherr Thaddaus von Dürnitz, an enthusiastic amateur.

Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622, was written for his friend Anton Stadler, who was one of the first clarinettists employed by the Court Orchestra in Vienna.
Instruments
Anton Stadler, for whom Mozart wrote the Clarinet Concerto, made technical changes to the clarinet to allow a downward extension, creating the 'basset clarinet'.
