Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a practicing Catholic and made his first contribution to the Mass form before he reached his teens.
Composition History
The Mass in C major, K. 257, known as the 'Credo' Mass, gets its nickname from the repetition of the word 'Credo' in that section, which dominates the musical thinking.
Recording & Production
This album is part of a three-year project to record all of Mozart's Masses, completed in September 2023 by Christoph Poppen and the Cologne Chamber Orchestra.
Historical Context
In the 1760s, the court in Salzburg, where Mozart worked, favored sacred music above other forms, considering chamber and instrumental compositions suitable only for private use.
Performer Biography
