Composer Biography
The Haydn oboe concerto on this album is now attributed to Ignaz Malzat, a trained oboist, teacher, and composer who worked in Salzburg and Passau around 1790.
Composition History
It was only in 1971 that a fragment in Mozart's hand proved he had indeed written the Oboe Concerto in C major, likely for oboist Giuseppe Ferlendis in 1777.

Franz Krommer, a Moravian violinist and composer, germanized his name from Franšek Vincenc Kramář when he moved to Vienna in 1785.
Composition History
The authenticity of the Joseph Haydn concerto on this album is strongly disputed, as a complete list of Haydn's works written in his own hand, discovered in 2008, did not include it.

Christian Schmitt, the oboist on this recording, was the principal oboe of the Sinfonieorchester Basel for twenty years before becoming a professor at the Staatliche Hoschschule für Musik in Stuttgart.

Franz Krommer, despite being a contemporary of Beethoven, maintained an older style similar to Mozart and Haydn, and was the last director of music at the Imperial Court of Austria from 1813 until his death in 1831.
