The English Concert, formed in 1973, is an early music ensemble that has maintained its reputation for over 30 years through best-selling recordings and international touring.
Compositional Technique
The Menuet and Trio, K. 485a, was originally a skeletal composition by Mozart given to his English student Thomas Attwood to complete as an exercise, then corrected and improved by Mozart.
Composition History
The Adagio and Fugue in C minor, K. 546, originated as a fugue for two pianos written in Vienna in 1783, during a period when Mozart studied works by Handel and J.S. Bach.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Mozart sometimes used the term "Nachtmusik" (night music) in preference to "Serenade" or "Notturno," all of which refer to music for evening performances.
