Historical Context
The Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, featured on this recording, was founded in 1841 with the participation of Mozart's widow Constanze and their two sons.

Mozart left his disliked service in Salzburg in June 1781, moving to Vienna to become a free artist.
Historical Context
Vienna was considered 'das Clavierland' (the land of pianos) after the invention of the fortepiano, making it an important center for piano music.
Compositional Technique
In his great Viennese piano concertos from 1784 onwards, Mozart treated the solo instrument and individual orchestral instruments like characters in an opera.
