The organ intonations for the antiphons in Mozart's Vesperae solennes de confessore were specially created for this project by conductor Howard Arman.

Franz Xaver Süssmayr, a composer, completed the Introit, Kyrie, Dies irae, Domine Jesu Christe, and the first eight bars of the Lacrimosa of Mozart's Requiem.

Performer Biography

Howard Arman, the conductor, has been the artistic director of the Bavarian Radio Chorus since 2016 and is known for his versatility across various musical genres.

Interpretation

In this recording, the Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus Dei of Mozart's Requiem are performed exactly as Süssmayr completed them, without any 'improvements' or retouches.

Critical Reception

Despite Süssmayr's attempts to clarify his contributions to Mozart's Requiem, his name did not appear on a printed score until 1827, 24 years after his death.
