Despite an adequate salary as Chamber Compositeur to Emperor Joseph II, Mozart was constantly troubled by money worries.

Composition History

Mozart's last piano sonata, the D-major Sonata, K. 576, was originally intended to be one of six 'easy piano sonatas' for Princess Friederike, daughter of Prussian ruler Wilhelm II, but turned out to be his most technically demanding.

Performer Biography

Pianist William Youn, born in 1982, has been praised by critics as a 'genuine poet' with a 'sovereign, bravura technique of touch'.

Compositional Technique

Each of Mozart's sonatas on this album is structured with a virtuoso opening movement and a brilliant finale, framing a calm, cantabile central movement.

Composition History

Mozart's Sonata in B-flat major, K. 333, is believed to have been written in Linz around the same time as his C-major Symphony, K. 425, known as the Linz Symphony, making it a 'Linz Sonata'.

Recording & Production

This album is the fourth volume in William Youn's project to record the complete piano sonatas of Mozart for OehmsClassics, following three award-winning and critically acclaimed CDs.

Composition History

Mozart's first six complete piano sonatas, K. 279 to 284, were composed in Munich during the seven weeks he spent there in 1775, leading to their designation as 'Munich and Salzburg Sonatas'.
