Nikolaj Znaider, the conductor and violinist on this album, plays the 'Kreisler' Guarnerius 'del Gesu' 1741 violin, on loan from The Royal Danish Theater.

Compositional Technique

The Violin Concerto No. 3, 'Straßburg', features a rare instance of Mozart borrowing material from his opera Il re pastore for its opening orchestral section.

Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 1, dated April 14, 1773, is his first original concerto for any instrument, entirely from his own imagination.

Compositional Technique

The finale of Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 includes a popular song of the day known as 'The Strasbourger', with bagpipe-like drones from the soloist.
