1/6Interpretation
The orchestra played without 20th-century vibrato and observed all of Mozart's repeat markings (except in the Da Capos of Minuets) to achieve an historically informed performance.
Interpretation
The performers aimed to recreate the playing style of Mozart's period, using the exact orchestra size of each symphony's first performance, with first and second violins seated opposite each other.
Performer Biography
Since 1998, Sir Roger Norrington has been the Principal Conductor of the Stuttgart RSO, developing a historically aware style of playing that combines period performance demands with a modern orchestra.
Interpretation
For the last four symphonies, including those on this album, a 'double orchestra' was used, with 'piano' sections played by half the band and 'fortes' by everyone, a system possibly used by Handel and Haydn.
Recording & Production
This album is part of a series of over 20 Mozart symphonies recorded live at the European Music Festival Stuttgart in September 2006.
Performer Biography
Sir Roger Norrington, the conductor, founded the London Classical Players in 1978 to research original instrument performance from 1750 to 1900.
