Composer's Artistic Vision

Paweł Mykietyn's compositional journey can be divided into three phases: postmodernist (until 2003), microtonal (2004-2012), and a current phase exploring the 'stretching' and 'condensation' of musical time.

Compositional Technique

Mykietyn's Symphony No. 2 incorporates the principle of the golden section and uses independent procedures for harmony, rhythm, tempo, and dynamics, often featuring 'permanent accelerando'.

This album is the first in a series of recordings by the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic dedicated to contemporary Polish composers.

Paweł Mykietyn, born in 1971, is one of Poland's busiest composers, creating music for traditional ensembles and modern electronic media.

Composition History

Symphony No. 2 was commissioned by the Polish Composers' Union for its 60th anniversary and premiered at the 50th 'Warsaw Autumn' International Festival of Contemporary Music in 2007.

Critical Reception

In 2008, Mykietyn's Symphony No. 2 received a recommendation at the International Rostrum of Composers in Dublin and the OPUS Public Media Award, with the jury comparing it to Witold Lutosławski's symphonic tradition.

Composer Biography

Mykietyn has collaborated for over twenty years with cult theatre director Krzysztof Warlikowski and has also composed for numerous films, winning multiple awards.
