Christopher Redgate, the oboist on this recording, has specialized in contemporary repertoire for over thirty years and performs exclusively on the new Howarth-Redgate 21st Century Oboe.

The Howarth-Redgate 21st Century Oboe was designed to meet new musical demands, particularly by expanding the number of multiphonics available by approximately four-fold.

The Lupophon, a new design of bass oboe developed by Wolf and Eppelsheim, has a larger range than traditional bass oboes or heckelphones, extending from F2 to B4 or higher.

The works on this album were commissioned with the express aim of building repertoire for the new Howarth-Redgate 21st Century Oboe and exploring its potential.

This album is the first of two volumes resulting from collaborations between oboist Christopher Redgate and composers, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
