The genesis for this project was a decision by Ruth Bader Ginsburg's children, Jane and James Ginsburg, to commission songs from three women composers for their mother's 80th birthday.

Composition History
The song "My Dearest Ruth" by Stacy Garrop is based on the last written statement of Martin D. Ginsburg, Ruth Bader Ginsburg's husband, found in his hospital room.

The album title, "Notorious RBG in Song," is a reference to a popular meme about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which itself riffs on the name of rapper The Notorious B.I.G.
Recording & Production
Most of the recordings on this album are world premieres, with the exceptions of "Anita's Story" and "Wider than the Sky."
Compositional Technique
Patrice Michaels's cycle, "The Long View," includes musical motives based on the initials of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (D-B-G) and her mother, Celia Amster Bader (C-A-B).
