Two different pianos were used for this recording: a Fazioli for Janáček's work and a Steinway and Sons for Korngold's work.

Erich Wolfgang Korngold fled Nazism and continued his successful career in Hollywood, where he composed over a dozen film scores, including one for which he won an Oscar.

Leoš Janáček's Capriccio was commissioned by Otakar Hollmann, a Czech pianist who lost the full use of his right hand during World War I and became a champion of left-hand repertoire.
Compositional Technique
Korngold's Suite for two violins, violoncello and piano left hand features an unusual instrumentation, notably the deliberate absence of a viola, creating a unique tonal color.
