Dominick DiOrio's 'Stravinsky Refracted' was inspired by Amy Lowell's poem, which itself was written shortly after she heard Igor Stravinsky's 'Three Pieces' for string quartet in 1915.

Claude Baker's 'Hor che'l ciel e la terra' is a reimagining of a work from Claudio Monteverdi's eighth book of madrigals, published in 1638.
Recording & Production
The works on this album were recorded over three years, from March 2014 to March 2016, with five entirely different rosters of student singers.

Dominick DiOrio, the director of NOTUS, has been actively quoting music of older composers in his vocal works since 2008, including fragments of Purcell, Brahms, Britten, and Hildegard.
