Performer Biography
Antonio Delgado, the conductor, received much of his musical education through the world-renowned El Sistema program and has conducted major orchestras in Venezuela and other countries.
Composition History
Manuel de Falla's The Three-Cornered Hat was produced in 1919, during the deadly third wave of the 'Spanish flu' pandemic, which broke out near the end of World War I.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Manuel de Falla believed that music must possess the quality of "evocación" (evocation), making one aware of a connection with something not overtly expressed.
Compositional Technique
Jaelem Bhate's Ovation, a new work commissioned for this project, has all its melodies and harmonies generated by a single C minor 11 tetrachord.
Historical Context
The project celebrates the courage, resilience, and sense of community shown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
