Paderewski's first recordings were made in July 1911 at his villa in Morges, Switzerland, using unwieldy equipment transported by The Gramophone Company.

Paderewski's playing often featured an 'old-fashioned mannerism' of playing the left hand slightly before the right in slower, melodic sections, a common practice among pianists born before the late 19th century.
