Paganini's 24 Caprices for solo violin were written over many years, with the first possibly as early as 1802 and the last in 1817, before being published in 1820.

Nicolò Paganini, the composer of the 24 Caprices, did not play outside his native Italy until he was 45, despite a 43-year concert career.
Cultural Impact
Paganini's innovative advances in violin technique inspired many later composers, including Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz, and Johannes Brahms, to make virtuoso technique a central part of classical music.

Unlike typical dedications to nobility of the period, Paganini uniquely dedicated his 24 Caprices 'to the artists'.
