Paul Juon, born in Moscow in 1872, received his conservatoire training there, studying violin with Jan Hřímalý and composition with Anton Arensky and Sergei Taneyev.

Paul Juon spent nearly all of his creative maturity in Berlin, where he taught at the Hochschule für Musik from 1906 until his retirement in 1934.
