Krzysztof Penderecki, the composer, studied composition at the State Higher School of Music in Kraków and received top prizes at the Young Composers' Competition of the Polish Composers' Union in 1959.

This album was recorded at the Witold Lutosławski Polish Radio Concert Studio in Warsaw in December 2015.
