This album was recorded in September 2005 at the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall in Poland.

Composition History

The Chaconne for strings, subtitled 'in memoria Giovanni Paolo II', was written in 2005 as a tribute to the late Pope John Paul II and forms a late addition to Penderecki's Polish Requiem.

Performer Biography

Antoni Wit, the conductor on this album, studied conducting with Henryk Czyz and composition with Krzysztof Penderecki at the Academy of Music in Kraków.
