Domenico Scarlatti, an Italian composer and harpsichordist, was the son of Alessandro Scarlatti, who was known as a renewer of Baroque music.

Domenico Scarlatti moved to Portugal in 1719, becoming court music director in Lisbon, and later to the Spanish Court in Madrid in 1733, where he composed exclusively for the harpsichord.

From 1738 onwards, Domenico Scarlatti composed 555 harpsichord sonatas, which were strongly influenced by Spanish music and established his fame.
