After a period of disillusionment with serialism and minimalism, Peter Dart left composing for ten years to work as a clarinetist in Sydney and Brisbane orchestras.

Peter Dart, the composer, began learning the clarinet after hearing Sydney jazz musician Don Burrows perform live, which also developed his instinct for rhythm and love of melodic freedom.

Peter Dart studied composition with prominent Australian composers Richard Meale and Peter Sculthorpe, and his early works were performed at ISCM concerts.

The pieces on this album were recorded in Verbrugghen Hall and the Recording Studio at The University of Sydney Conservatorium of Music between 2017 and 2020.
