The Bagatelles for chamber orchestra began as piano works, with Pilati adapting six pieces completed in 1929 for orchestration in 1933.

Historical Context
After World War II, a desire to erase memories of the Fascist period's culture led to an entire generation of musicians, including Pilati, being condemned to oblivion.
