Pleyel was a pupil of Johann Baptist Vanhal and Joseph Haydn, studying with Haydn for five years from 1772 to 1777.

This album includes the first recording of Pleyel's Symphony in C major Ben 151, which had not been performed for over 200 years.

Pleyel's music was widely appreciated in his time, making him one of the most popular composers in Southern and Western Europe during his Strasbourg years.
