Composition History
Rachmaninoff's Cello Sonata was composed immediately after his famous 2nd Piano Concerto and was dedicated to Anatoli Brandukov, who collaborated on the cello part.
Performer Biography
Gert von Bülow, the cellist on this album, began playing at age 4 and made his first public appearance at 6, later studying with renowned cellists Gregor Piatigorsky and Pierre Fournier.

The original master tapes for this recording were transferred by Jesper Jørgensen using the best and most up-to-date analogue-to-digital sound equipment.
Performer Biography
Merete Westergaard, the pianist, played for the King and Queen of Sweden at age 9 and appeared as a soloist with orchestras at 12, making her official debut at 16.

Composition History
Prokofiev's Cello Sonata was assisted by the famous cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, who was still young but well-known in the Soviet Union at the time.
