Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2 was reconstructed by the composer after its orchestral score was destroyed during the Russian Revolution when looters raided his apartment.

Andrew Litton, the conductor, is the Music Director of New York City Ballet and has been knighted by Norway's King Harald V with the Norwegian Royal Order of Merit.
Historical Context
Prokofiev's 'war sonatas' (Nos. 6, 7, and 8) were composed between 1939 and 1944, during his return to the Soviet Union.
